Cost Explorer

Investigate authoritative cost by native and business dimensions.

Explorer is the detail view for financial questions raised by the Command Center. It supports drilling into AWS-native dimensions such as account, service and region, and supported persisted business context such as application or workload.

A useful analysis sequence

Start with a period, currency and cost measure. Group by account/service for a billing sanity check. Then filter into applications or workloads where mapping is present. Inspect unallocated or unmapped lines rather than assuming every AWS cost belongs to an application.

Historical truth

Historical tags, AWS cost categories and allocation-time business labels are not interchangeable with current inventory metadata. CoreFinOps preserves historical context from the corresponding cost facts and published allocation run. Changing today's application owner does not rewrite yesterday's finance history.

Important

A mapping change today must not silently rewrite previously published allocation history. Historical labels are preserved as calculated.

Exporting a result

Use the available CSV or XLSX export actions for supported views. Preserve measure, currency, period and source freshness in any downstream presentation. An exported subtotal must reconcile with the authoritative query that produced it.

Limits of interpretation

An unexplained cost change is not necessarily a configuration defect or causal incident. Explorer shows defensible financial facts and associated dimensions; cost-change analysis can suggest contributors, not prove causation without sufficient evidence.
